At least that is what the neighbors of a Orchard Lake, Michigan man probably think. Six years ago, Greg Slagen, being a big fan of Halloween, thought it would be interesting to set up a small Halloween display in his front yard. He came up with the idea of a simple coffin with an air actuated piston to raise and lower the lid. Everyone thought that was pretty neat, but Slagen was not content.

Medea by Carlton Guc Medea is a pretty serious play about broken love and revenge. People love. People die. Needless to say it was the directors desire along with mine that this show should have the feeling of being dark with the sound design complementing what is happening on stage. The show played in the fall of 1996 and the following is the implementation of SFX Standard. The computer used was a Pentium-90, 32 Meg of RAM, with an Iomega Jaz drive, and one sound card.

The weekend long event in July of 1996 was a culmination of a year long bicentennial celebration in the city of Cleveland. The Celebration 200! event took place in the revitalized downtown riverfront district in downtown Cleveland, and included music, lasers, fireworks, a parade of boats, and many other festival activities.

Macbeth at Indiana Repertory Theatre by Paul Estby The production updated Shakespeare to the '90's--complete with machine guns, laptops, and cell phones. The Soundscape rivals that of most SCI-FI movie thrillers. Tons of underscoring, fast paced entrance and exits, and 'bump' highlights are used in the production. We can safely say that without SFX's capabilities and programmability, the show would still be in Tech.

Tommy by Brad Rembielak Tommy is a rock opera originally written by The Who. As the chief sound engineer, I used SFX ProAudio to handle the playback of sound effects, the operation of a MegaMix M1600 MIDI controllable mixer for setting levels of 16 wireless mikes, and the operation of an intelligent lighting controller. Following is a discussion of the development of the Tommy workspace through multiple Sound Effects lists and Cue lists. Finally, I will discuss how the show was managed from one, main cue list, leaving me with only one
